eBay Photo: According to the seller this is an original photograph taken in February 1945 (25.2.1945) by Luftwaffe personnel during the recovery of Me 262 A-2a W.Nr. 110613 of 2./KG 51 (and previously published in LiF). While returning to Hopsten airfield after a bombing sortie on the Allied bridgehead in the area east of Linnich, W.Nr. 110613 coded 9K+DK and piloted by Ofw. Wieczorec, was hit by Allied anti-aircraft fire, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing near the village of Nottuln, west of Muenster. The other pilot flying the sortie, Lt. Heid, was able to return to base without injury.

Photographs taken by the Luftwaffe staff during the last months of the war are very rare, due to the lack of laboratories that could print photos and for all the reasons we know well!

Messerschmitt Me 262 A-2a 9K+FH of 1./KG 51, Brunnthal/Germany, May 1945

Image Messerschmitt Me 262 A-2a 9K+FH of 1./KG 51, Brunnthal/Germany, May 1945. In mid-March 1945, this machine was delivered to 1./KG 51 at Giebelstadt where it was flown operationally until mid-April. On 24 April, I./KG 51 was disbanded and delivered 12-13 aircraft to JV 44 at München-Riem. Surprisingly, I./KG 51 re-constituted a few days later and all the aircraft were taken back to be flown to Prague. This un-serviceable aircraft was left behind. It was discovered several days later by American troops on the edge of the autobahn south of München.
