Info Eduard: Spitfire Mk.Vb BM564 served with No. 350 (Belgian) Squadron from 30 April 1942 until 27 December 1942. During this period, all sixteen Spitfires of the squadron carried presentation names, with BM564 allocated the inscription “Léopoldville.” The aircraft was almost exclusively flown by the well-known Belgian pilot and ace P/O André Marie Alfred Frederick Plisnier, who scored four victories in its cockpit — two during Operation Jubilee (the Dieppe Raid) on 19 August 1942 and two more in November. Plisnier’s total wartime score was six confirmed kills. The name “Léopoldville” later reappeared in another list of Belgian presentation Spitfires, this time assigned to AA720. This aircraft flew only a very short operational career, from 6 June 1944 until 10 June 1944, when its pilot, F/Lt Alec Alexander, was killed. At the time, AA720 wore full D-Day invasion stripes, likely featured the later-style integrated armoured glass windshield, and no longer carried nose art beneath the canopy.
