May 11th 1940 Operation Bouillon which was close to the French German boarder was to cost 88 Squadron 4 aircraft P2202, P2251, P2261 and another unknown serial code. The Squadron took-off 09:45 from Mourmelon this aircraft was shot down between Vaux-sur-Sure and Bercheux (Luxembourg), near two small towns on the Bastogne to Neufchateau road Belgiom. F/L A.J. Madge POW Sgt J.M. Whittle KIA and Cpl A.C. Collyer POW

Fairey Battles RAF 88Sqn bombed at Mourmelon le Grand during Battle of France 1940 IWM C1534

Interior of a bombed hangar at Mourmelon-le-Grand after a heavy German attack on the airfield on 14 May 1940. The remains of a Miles Magister and at least two Fairey Battles, belonging to No. 88 Squadron RAF, can be seen in the wreckage.
