Messerschmitt Bf 109E Stab II./JG27 (II+- WNr 6453F Strumatal Bulgaria 1941 02-05

Photo's 02-05: At some time during March or April 1941, Feldmarschall Erhard Milch visited II./JG27 at Strumatal in Bulgaria and in this series of photographs, he is seen in conversation with Hptm. Wolfgang Lippert Kommandeur of II./JG27. Note the crudely applied fuselage stripe on the Bf 109E, W.Nr. 6453F, in the background, which appears to have been drawn on with chalk. Most unusual, too, are the Stab markings which appear to consist of a single chevron and two small vertical bars. Although also observed at a different time and location the significance of this combination is not known.
