USAAF 42-107855 Martin B-26C-45-MO Marauder
USAAF serial number S/N: 42-107855 Martin B-26C-45-MO Marauder
1942107855, 42-107855 Martin B-26C-45-MO Marauder, Fate: AAIR Unit: 344BG495BS Remarks: 344BG495BS Silver Streaks Code:Y5-? Base: 169 killed in crash-landing destroyed by fire DAM-CAT:5 crashed near Stansted/5mi N Sta 169 England Pilot:Geary, William H Date: Aug 25, 1944. Disposal: 42-107855 was indeed the last of the B-26C-55 aircraft off the Omaha line, but was delivered as an AT-23B-MO. It served with the 344th BG / 495th BS as Y5-W. Records indicate that this aircraft exploded in mid air 5 miles North of Stansted on 25th August 1944, killing the pilot 1st Lt. William H Geary and all the crew. Could be one of the "Sleepy Time Gal" aircraft names, since Bill Geary flew these. However, this conflicts with accident report website, which lists this aircraft as crash landing 5 miles North of Stansted on 25th August 1944 and was destroyed by fire. Need to confirm these details. The mission that this aircraft was lost on was to attack heavy Anti aircraft gun positions at Fort L'Amorique, Brest, France.
