Formed Dec 1939 in Furth-Buchschwabach as Jagdfliegerschule Furth, with 3 staffeln. On 16 Jan 1940 redesignated Jagdfliegerschule 4.

4./JFS4 was formed Jan 1941 in Furth-Herzogenaurach, but was disbanded 9 Apr 1942.

On 1 Nov 1942 3./JFS4 became 7./Zerstorerschule 2, and was reformed.

On 19 Mar 1943 was redesignated with :

Stab/JFS4 became Stab/JG104
1./JFS4 became 1./JG104
2./JFS4 became 2./JG104
3./JFS4 became 3./JG104

Used the following aircraft: Ar 96, Avia B.534, B.71, Bf 108, Bf 109, Bu 131, Curtiss H-75, Fw 56, Go 145, Ju 160, Kl 35 and W.34
