Flughafenbetriebskompanien

Overview:

The Flughafenbetriebskompanie´s (FBK) primary duty was repair and service for all the aircraft of a specific unit. The FBK belonged to the various Gruppen of the heavier units, incl. Kampfgeschwader, Sturzkampfgeschwader, Zerstorergeschwader, and various reconnaissance and transport units.

Normally fully motorised, consisted of 150 men, and was divided into 4 platoons (züge) - 3 Betriebszüge and 1 Werkstattzug, and would normally follow the Gruppe around to the various bases.

Initially most Gruppen had 2 FBK 's, but this was changed to one each, after Jan 1943.

Formed May 1939 in Langendiebach. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 3.FBK-KG55.

Reformed 10 Jan 1943 in Morosowskaja from 2.FBK-KG55. On 1 May 1943 redesignated 3.FBK-LG1.

Reformed 1 May 1943 in Stalino from 124. Flughafenbetriebskompanie (Qu).

Served with I./KG55 (May 1939 - Apr 1945)

Formed May 1939 in Langendiebach. On 10 Jan 1943 redesignated 1.FBK-KG55.

Reformed 10 Jan 1943 in Nowotscherkask from 5.FBK-KG55.

Served with I./KG55 (May 1939 - Jan 1943) and II./KG55 (Jan 1943 - Apr 1945)
