Junker Ju 87R-2Trop 6./StG2 (T6+CP) Hubert Polz Tmimi, Libya July 1941 Image 01: Pilot: Hubert Polz. Standard camouflage: upper surfaces RLM 70 and 71, lower surfaces RLM 78. This plane with its unbelievable decoration is without doubt the best-known and most-often reproduced Stuka. It seems that only one plane was painted thus and that it is possible that only the port side was decorated in this way.

North Africa 1941. Hubert Pölz saw action in the Balkans, North Africa and Russia. He was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak leaves during his service on the Russian front. He survived the war as commander of I/StG 151. The snake-marked Ju 87 is arguably the ultimate example of WWII Luftwaffe nose-art. But even though this aircraft is credited to Pölz, there is no evidence that this was actually his personal ride. During a period of time around July of '42, the entire flight of 6/Stg 2 probably bore the snake emblem. It is also not fully established if the snake was white and red or white and sand. (So I did both.) The aircraft started it's career in Europe, thus the standard 70/71/65 scheme. After it's re-location to North Africa the big sharp edged patches of sand colour were added. It is not known what shade of paint was actually used, so I used the lighter colour RLM79/2 that matched the various pictures of models I looked at. HS
