Messerschmitt Bf 110C Zerstörer I.(Z)/JG 77 (2N+IR) Theodor Weissenberger Kirkenes, Norway Sept 1941
This aircraft originally belonged to II./ZG 76, and, as such, carried the code '2N' along with the unit emblem. Weissenberger attained twenty-three victories on the Bf 110, and later was transferred to the services of 6. Staffel Jagdgeschwader 5, flying the Bf 109. Combat in the far north saw him gain 175 victories. Later, as the commanding officer of I./JG 5, he was part of defensive operations along the invasion front, where twenty-five victories were gained. In late 1944, he went through training on the new Me 262, which he flew to the end of hostilities, and was able to destroy a further eight aircraft. He ended the war as a major commanding Jagdgeschwader 7 with 208 kills

On July 17, the Germans attacked all the airfields of the Soviet air forces in the Arctic: the bombs flew at Shonguy, Afrikanda, Murmashi, Vaeng-1 and Vaengu-2. In Shonguy, one I-16 and one UTI-4 of the 145th IAP were destroyed, and eight I-15bis of the 72nd SAP were damaged in Vaenge-2. The Germans operated in rather large groups, the Soviet pilots also flew 10-20 cars at a time into the sky, in most cases preventing the Germans from effectively bombing. In one of the battles, the plane of the commander 1. (Z) / JG 77 of Lieutenant Felix-Maria Brandis (Oblt. Felix-Maria Brandis) was shot down; Brandis himself escaped, but his gunner died.
It is noteworthy that new MiG-3 fighters took part in the reflection of the air strikes, on the eve of the 145th and 147th IAP (four and 13 aircraft, respectively). Unfortunately, MiGs suffered from a number of design and technological flaws, therefore they did not play a significant role. Reflecting a raid on Afrikanda, the flight commander of the 159th IAP junior lieutenant L.N. died on the MiG-3, the aircraft overtaking the aircraft. Evseev.
On July 19, while repelling a raid on the Vaenga-1 airfield, a group of the 72nd SAP (six I-16, two MiG-3 and two I-15 bis) attempted to intercept the Ju 88, but was counterattacked by German fighters. The Germans shot down two I-16s and one I-15bis (Lieutenant I.I. Chernovol, junior lieutenants A.M. Petrov and N.T. Kulayev died). Two more I-16s were heavily damaged. For this success, the Germans had to pay: Pilot 1. (Z) / JG 77 Lt. Klappenbach (Lt. Dietrich Klappenbach) had to put his Bf 110 on the belly. The crew was captured, the plane was transported to Murmansk and put on display, and the victory was credited to Lieutenant Zakhar Sorokin, who was flying the MiG-3.

LN+HR (normally flown by Ofw. Munding, crewed by Lt. Felix Brandis and Uffz. GuntramWeigl and flying out of Petsamo, was hit by anti-aircraft fire in the left engine over the Kola Peninsula. The resulting forced landing wrote the aircraft off. The crew survived the ordeal unscathed. The front part of the aircraft carried the new unit marking of this Zerstörerstaffel, in the form of a dachshund with a Rata (Polikarpov I-16) in its mouth. Felix-Maria Brandis, during the course of service on the Eastern Front, raised his total to fourteen aerial victories, including five over British aircraft (two of which were Fairey Albacores) and nine Soviet aircraft. He was killed on February 2nd, 1942 in Bf 110 E-2 (W.Nr. 2546) LN+AR close to Olanga, when he crashed in bad weather on landing after returning from a combat mission.

No attempt has been made to touch up the fuselage code following the repainting. 10./ZG 26 (III.JG 5, Gossen, Norway - Spring, 1945 Acombination of predominantly light colors RLM 76 and 75 make up the camouflage scheme of this aircraft belonging to III./JG 5, later ZG26. Coming off the classic fighter role of JG 5 from northern Europe, these Bf110G-2s operated as fighter-bombers during the closing months of the war. Although JG 5 was not integrated into the 'Defense of the Reich' system, it did employ the fuselage bands associated with it. Black and yellow colors assigned to JG 5 appeared also on the pictured aircraft. Fuselage Balkenkreuz appear in their later guise, made up of only the white segments. The spinners carried a white spiral over RLM 70. The individual aircraft letter 'E' is repeated on the lower surfaces of the wing. Aircraft W.Nr. 210087 is sometimes interpreted as having been coded 1B+EU or 4A+EU, but the most recent evidence suggests that aircraft of 10.(Z)/JG 5 used the new code of 3U on redesignating as 10./IV./ZG 26.

I tried to paint them accurate as possible.Schlosstein was a commander of Luftlotte 5's ME 110 Staffel. The bad luck spell of the commanders of JG5 was only broken when Schlosstein took over the duties after Felix Brandis, Erich Groth and Gerhard Schascke. Schaske was killed in action after dogfight with several LaGG 3's after downing two of his opponents.Groth and Brandis vere both killed in accidents. Groth was a commander only few days. His Bf 110C hit a fjell and Groth and his gunner were both killed.

His credit count tallied 14 victories, of which five were British (including a pair of Fairey Albacores) and nine Soviet aircraft. Lt Brandis died on February 2, 1942 flying Bf 110E-2 (W.Nr.2546) LN+AR at Olang, when he crashed on the return leg of a combat sortie during bad weather. By that time, his unit had been re-designated 6.(Z)/JG 5 (January 25, 1942). The designation of the unit progressively changed from 1.(Z)/JG 77 to 6.(Z)/JG 5, 10.(Z)/JG 5 and 13.(Z)/JG 5. On the nose of the aircraft, there was the emblem of a dachshund with a Rata (Polikarpov I-16) in its mouth. For this unit, this was a characteristic marking, because a number of these dogs were mascots of the "Dackelstaffel" over the length of its existence, irrespective of the unit designation carried at any particular time. Some sources even say each crew had their own dog. The wiener dogs even occasionally flew on combat missions with the crew. The unit opposed British aircraft, as well as Soviet, in northern Europe. This aircraft, along with Lt. Harry Kripphal, fell on June 18, 1942, a victim of anti-aircraft fire 30 km west of Murmansk.
