Photo 01: This unidentified Bf109E-4 of 3./JG2 exhibits two variations from finishes seen on other aircraft of the unit. Finished in an 02/71 scheme with heavy fuselage mottle of the same colors, it carries no JG2 shield beneath the windscreen and the width of the black borders of the Balkenkreuz have been increased to reduce the visibility of the white segments. The yellow and blue 'Horrido' pennant on the nose, later adopted by Helmut Wick as his personal emblem, was designed by Uffz. Franz Jaenisch, the colors alluding to the Swedish connections of the one-time Staffelkapitan, Hennig Strümpell.
